Saint Louis Zoo Emerson Children's Zoo To Close

Today, the Saint Louis Zoo announced the forthcoming closure of the Emerson Children's Zoo. While the Zoo works to reimagine the 3.5-acre family and children's area, a temporary dinosaur exhibit will open in its place in spring 2021.

Asian elephant calf Avi has died

The Saint Louis Zoo is saddened to announce that the male Asian elephant calf born on July 6, 2020, has died. The decision to humanely euthanize the calf was made and he passed away peacefully this morning, August 2, 2020.

IT'S A BOY! Asian elephant gives birth to the second male elephant ever born at Saint Louis Zoo

The Saint Louis Zoo is proud to announce the birth of a male Asian elephant calf at 1:55 p.m. on Monday, July 6. Rani (pronounced “Ronnie”), the Zoo’s 23-year-old Asian elephant, gave birth to a yet-to-be-named baby boy.

A male Somali wild ass (Somali is pronounced so-MAH-lee) foal named Tobias (toh-BYE-us) was born at the Saint Louis Zoo on July 30, 2019, to mother Tukia (too-KEE-uh), who came to St. Louis from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in 2005, and father Hirizi (her-EE-zee), who was born at the Saint Louis Zoo in 2013.
