Chimpanzee Pregnancy at the Saint Louis Zoo

Utamu (pronounced oo-TAH-moo), an 18-year-old chimpanzee at the Saint Louis Zoo, is pregnant and due to give birth this fall at Jungle of the Apes.

Today, the Saint Louis Zoo announced the forthcoming closure of the Emerson Children's Zoo. While the Zoo works to reimagine the 3.5-acre family and children's area, a temporary dinosaur exhibit will open in its place in spring 2021.

Asian elephant calf Avi has died

The Saint Louis Zoo is saddened to announce that the male Asian elephant calf born on July 6, 2020, has died. The decision to humanely euthanize the calf was made and he passed away peacefully this morning, August 2, 2020.

IT'S A BOY! Asian elephant gives birth to the second male elephant ever born at Saint Louis Zoo

The Saint Louis Zoo is proud to announce the birth of a male Asian elephant calf at 1:55 p.m. on Monday, July 6. Rani (pronounced “Ronnie”), the Zoo’s 23-year-old Asian elephant, gave birth to a yet-to-be-named baby boy.

Zoo helps provide satellite collars for post-release tracking of addax. Four males and 11 females addax, raised in human care in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were released to the wild in the Ouadi Rimé-Ouadi Achim Wildlife Reserve in Chad.

The Saint Louis Zoo's bull Asian elephant, Raja (pronounced RAH zhä), will celebrate his "golden birthday" when he turns 27 on Dec. 27 this year. A golden birthday (also known as "grand birthday" or "lucky birthday") occurs once in a lifetime when one turns the age of their birth day.
