STL Zoo Bier raises funds and awareness for the Saint Louis Zoo's conservation work and animal-care efforts

To raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare and conservation, the Saint Louis Zoo teamed up with Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC) in 2019 to create STL Zoo Bier, the first official beer of the Saint Louis Zoo.

The brand-new brew for 2022 is STL Zoo Bier Big Cat Golden Pilsner. The striking, colorful label features an Amur (pronounced AH-mer) leopard, one of the rarest, most endangered cats in the world. Big Cat Country is home to the Amur leopards at the Zoo, including two female cubs that were born on April 21, 2022. See more info on this significant birth.

The pilsner-style beer will be available at the Zoo beginning this weekend and next week at grocery stores and beer retailers in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and the Metro East area. For every case of STL Zoo Bier sold at area retailers, Urban Chestnut will donate $3 to the Saint Louis Zoo to support its animal care and conservation work.*

"This unique, local partnership with Urban Chestnut provides important support to our worldwide efforts to save animals from extinction," said Michael Macek, Director, Saint Louis Zoo. "We greatly appreciate the brewery's generosity and partnership over the last three years, donating and raising over $37,000 for conservation and animal-care efforts at the Zoo. Adults can enjoy a quality, St. Louis-made craft beer while helping wildlife, which makes for a great collaboration."

Since creating the partnership in 2019, 4,269 cases of STL Zoo Bier have been sold.

"As an animal lover and life-long advocate of the St. Louis region, this partnership means a lot to me and to the team at UCBC as well," said David Wolfe, co-founder of Urban Chestnut Brewing Company. "The Saint Louis Zoo is such a significant organization, both locally and globally, and we're thrilled to continue this partnership, especially at this point in time when it's more important than ever to support our community."

STL Zoo Bier, sold in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans, is an easy-drinking, light golden pilsner, at 4.8% ABV, according to UCBC.

*In partnership with Urban Chestnut's local wholesalers: Breakthru Beverage, Grey Eagle Distributors, Donnewald Distributing, and H.W. Herrell Distributing.

Urban Chestnut operates two breweries in St. Louis, The Midtown Brewery & Biergarten at 3229 Washington Avenue, and The Grove Brewery & Bierhall at 4465 Manchester in Forest Park Southeast St. Louis, where they brew batches of artisanal, modern American beers (their Revolution series) and classically-crafted European styles (their Reverence series).
