Aggression Management in Zoo and Aquarium Animals

Webinars – 2024

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) Reproductive Management Center has launched a series of 90-minute webinars on aggression management in zoo and aquarium animals:

  1. Introduction and Background
  2. Contraceptive/Hormonal Approaches
  3. Pharmacological Approaches
  4. Housing and Husbandry Approaches
  5. Behavior Modification/Training Approaches
  6. Aggression Management in Large Avian Species
  7. Aggression Management from Prosimians to Apes

The first webinar provides introductory and background material on types of aggression, including how we talk about aggression and how that impacts intervention; the hormonal bases of aggression; what to expect in terms of aggression from a natural history perspective; and a discussion on when or when not to manage aggression.

Subsequent webinars each focus on a different approach to aggression management: contraceptive/hormonal; pharmacological; housing and husbandry; and behavior modification.

This series also features several taxonomically focused webinars, with subjects including large avian species and primates.

The webinar recordings are stored on AZA Learn. To access, register for your free MyAZA account by following the instructions below.
