ST. LOUIS (May 22, 2024) – To raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare and conservation, the Saint Louis Zoo teamed up with Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC) in 2019 to create STL Zoo Bier, the first official beer of the Saint Louis Zoo.
The new brew for 2024 is STL Zoo Bier Lemur Light Lager. The distinct, bright label features a ring-tailed lemur, an endangered species, native to southwestern Madagascar forests, deserts and scrublands. The Zoo is home to three ring-tailed lemurs.
The American Lager beer is now available at the Zoo and at grocery stores and beer retailers in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and the Metro East area. For every case of STL Zoo Bier sold at area retailers, Urban Chestnut will donate $3 per case to the Saint Louis Zoo to support its animal care and conservation work.*
“The Zoo has this unique, local partnership with Urban Chestnut to not only provide a refreshing beverage to Zoo guests but supports our worldwide efforts to save animals from extinction,” said Michael Macek, Saint Louis Zoo Director. “We greatly appreciate the brewery’s generosity and partnership over the last five years, donating and raising over $19,700 for conservation and animal-care efforts at the Zoo. Adults can enjoy a quality, St. Louis-made craft beer while helping wildlife, which makes for a great collaboration.”
Since creating the partnership in 2019, 7,259 cases of STL Zoo Bier have been sold.
“As an animal lover and life-long advocate of the St. Louis region, this partnership means a lot to me and to the team at UCBC as well,” said David Wolfe, co-founder of Urban Chestnut Brewing Company. “The Saint Louis Zoo is such a significant organization, both locally and globally, and we’re thrilled to continue this partnership, especially at this point in time when it’s more important than ever to support our community.”
STL Zoo Bier, sold in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans, is a clean, crisp and easy-drinking light lager, at 4% ABV, 95 calories & 3.7g carbs (per/12oz).
*In partnership with Urban Chestnut’s local wholesalers: Breakthru Beverage, Grey Eagle Distributors, Donnewald Distributing, and H.W. Herrell Distributing.
