Educational Zoo Tours
Each tour is led by a docent and limited to nine students and two chaperones. Please book as many tours as needed to accommodate appropriately for your group size.
Red pandas climb, sea lions swim, and tortoises walk. In this tour, students will compare and contrast specific adaptations for different forms of locomotion of different animals (as well as their own abilities!) and learn how the Zoo meets the needs of a variety of animals
MO GLES: K.LS1.C.1, 1.LS3.A.1
On this tour, students will compare and contrast the habitats of the bears and marine birds (penguins and puffins) at the Zoo. Why does Kali the polar bear have a really deep pool, but Huck and Finley the grizzly bears don't? Why do the Humboldt penguins live outside at the Zoo, but the other three species live inside? This tour will introduce students to animals at the Zoo and discuss how Zoo habitats are designed based upon animal needs.
MO GLES: K.PS1.A.1, 1.LS1.A.1, K.LS1.C.1
When making observations at the Zoo, have you noticed that the orangutan habitat is tall, but the gorilla habitat is wide? Or have you noticed that the birds get different types of food during different seasons? In this tour, students will observe animal adaptations and learn how the Zoo cares for and meets the needs of a variety of animals with many different physical and behavioral adaptations.
MO GLES: 3.LS3.A.1, 3.LS3.B.1, 3.LS3.C.1, 4.LS1.D.1
All animals depend upon energy from their food for survival. Tour Big Cat Country and Red Rocks to learn about where these predators and prey fit into the food chain, and how the Zoo meets their year-round unique nutritional needs.
MO GLES: 5.LS2.B.1, 3.LS3.C.1, 5.PS3.D.1
