Construction updates

Many Roads Lead to the Saint Louis Zoo

We're lucky there's a variety of ways to get to the Saint Louis Zoo, from east and west, north and south. In 2009, I-64/US 40 will be under construction. Detours are minimal in time and distance, and construction will not affect Zoo hours or attractions.

South Lot Open During Construction

The south parking lot and the Zoo's south entrance are open during road construction on Wells Drive. Wells is open to Zoo traffic only. The road is closed to through traffic. Construction will not affect the Zoo's operating hours or attractions. Cars will be allowed to enter and exit from two entrances on the south parking lot - one near Hampton Avenue and another near the Tamm Avenue bridge. The Zoo's north parking lot and north entrance on Government Drive are also open. The Zoo will begin construction of its new Wachovia South Arrival Experience, which will include a new bridge from the south parking lot to the entry plaza, allowing for pedestrians, strollers and people using wheelchairs to cross the busy street safely. Construction on Wells is expected to take three months beginning August 12, 2009.

The Hampton Avenue bridge into Forest Park is now open.

Now through 2009, I-64/US 40 will be closed between I-170 and Kingshighway Boulevard.
