Snooze at the Zoo - Fall 2010 / Spring 2011
Animal Forensics

If you love animals, enjoy spending the night out, and want to complete activities toward your scout badges, than Snooze at the Zoo is an adventure you won't want to miss!

You will need to bring your investigative skills for this overnight! During this overnight scouts will be asked to solve wildlife mysteries. Scouts will learn how to read wildlife signs which can be anything from scat, tracks, chew marks on bark, to marks left on prey!

Overnight evening activities will include a live animal encounter, rotations through four exciting activities, an evening pizza snack (with a soft drink), a night hike around Zoo grounds, and a flashlight tour of the Herpetarium. The morning portion of the overnight adventure includes a continental breakfast, a morning stroll around Zoo grounds to see the animals wake-up, a souvenir Zoo patch and glow-in-the-dark overnight cup!

All About Birds Interest Project

Have you ever heard of the "canary in the coal mine?" These small birds were once used in coal mines to warn the miners about bad air. Now we know that the state of bird populations in the wild is often an indicator of problems in an ecosystem. Come and learn all there is about what makes birds such an important part of the animal kingdom. (45 minute class will complete # 4 of the Skill Builders and the 30 minute lab will complete # 1 of the Skill Builders)

Tours

The Zoo's Education Department offers tours seven days a week from September through May, unless otherwise noted. Tours are offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
