New! A healthy ecosystem depends on a diversity of plants and animals, clean air and water, good soil, and PEOPLE! Many of the things we do can have a negative impact, but we can also act for the good of ecosystems around us. In this program, students will learn the importance of healthy ecosystems and will discover simple ways to make a positive impact. They will try out role-playing games, determine their own ecological "footprint", make a craft that encourages "green" living, and learn how their actions can help a local species, the Ozark Hellbender, survive by improving the health of its ecosystem. During the program, students will experience green living by staying the night at the Zoo's new Exploration Outpost, a L.E.E.D. (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified building complete with a living roof! Additional activities include a live animal class, a movie, a night hike, and a morning stroll through the zoo. A pizza snack, breakfast, and a souvenir are also included.
