  • Our twice-a-year newsletter "The Learning World," which features new opportunities and themed articles from an educator's perspective;
  • Summer Programs Catalog and Teacher Workshop Brochures;
  • Zoo education opportunities and announcements both by mail.

Teacher Discounts in Zoo Gift Shops

Take a bite out of the cost of education materials. As a teacher, you can now receive an Educator Discount ID Card that entitles you to receive a 10% discount on gift shop materials to be used for educational purposes. Classroom teachers may mail or bring in a request on school letterhead to the Education Department. One ID card per letter. (Sorry, this offer is not available to home-school parents.)

Free Items for Your Science Lab

  • Feathers
  • Snake shed
  • Mammal hair

The Education Department has a limited but renewable supply of animal artifacts (biofacts) available to teachers for educational purposes only. You can request a few unidentified bird feathers, a piece of snake shed, a small clump of mammal hair (usually sheep, llama or camel) and a small piece of animal bone. We collect these items on an ongoing basis, but sometimes we temporarily run out. Please give us some time to process your request.

Zoo Library and Teacher Resource Center

Teachers in the St. Louis metropolitan area can enrich their classrooms with the diverse array of materials available from the Saint Louis Zoo's Library and Teacher Resource Center. We have slide sets, videos, curriculum guides, activity books and kits on a variety of animal-related subjects. Printed resources include informational leaflets, teacher guides and scavenger hunts.
