Primate Keeper - (Full-Time)

Responsibilities: Work primarily at the Primate House with potential to fill in at the Jungle of the Apes. Careful and detailed attention to physical and social well being of all individuals in the collection; daily maintenance of all primate housing and support facilities; maintenance of accurate records; participation in written and oral interpretive programs; other tasks and duties as directed by supervisor. Must show equal ability to work independently or with a group.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an animal-related field and previous keeper experience preferred. Educational background in primate biology, animal behavior, conservation biology, and/or primate keeper experience desired. Good writing and speaking skills a plus. Must have the physical ability to perform required duties as assigned, including but not limited to standing for long periods of time, kneeling, bending, lifting, walking the Zoo grounds and squatting down. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
Zoo Ranger - (Full-Time)

Responsibilities: Responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of Zoo property, personnel and all visitors. Perform security patrols (building/gate checks), transport cash banks to designated locations, respond to all emergencies, enforce Zoo rules and regulations, protect property from theft, embezzlement, fire and accidents, investigate and write reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities and other security-related situations, and provide additional as-needed assistance to visitors and employees.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Security, law enforcement, military, firefighting or equivalent experience preferred. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be able to successfully pass a physical, including a drug test and firearms training course provided by the St. Louis Police Department. Must have valid driver's license and own gun and leather. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, volunteers and visitors. First Aid, CPR/AED experience required. Must be able to successfully obtain an armed security license. Uniforms provided. Able to work in all types of weather and unpredictable crisis situations. Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, evenings and holidays. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
Keeper, Antelope/River's Edge - (Part-Time)

Responsibilities: Will be assigned to work in the Antelope or River's Edge area as needed. Major tasks include cleaning and maintaining exhibits, holding stalls, and service areas; continual monitoring of exhibits and public area condition with attention to detail; feeding and watering of animals; providing assistance in restraining animals for veterinary management and research purposes; participating in the use of behavioral conditioning to train species for husbandry/research purposes; maintaining departmental records; and working on special projects as needed.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an animal-related field and previous keeper experience preferred. Previous experience working with elephants desired. Must have the physical ability to perform required duties as assigned which include standing for long periods of time, kneeling, bending, lifting, squatting down and working in all types of weather conditions. Good keeper safety record required. Diver certification a plus. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
Seasonal Positions - (Guest Services & Attractions)
The Saint Louis Zoo is seeking energetic, responsible and service-oriented applicants for seasonal employment opportunities in the Guest Services and Attractions Department, including Guest Services Hosts, Ride Operators, Parking Lot Attendants, and Railroad Conductors. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age to apply (or 15 years of age with a work permit). Candidates must have availability on weekends and evenings and must be able to work into the fall and winter months. Prior customer service experience, as well as experience on a cash register preferred. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
