Hoffmann's Two-toed Sloth

two_toed_sloth_sm.jpg: Two-toed sloth
Range: Nicaragua to Brazil (in Central and South America)
Habitat: Forests
Conservation Status: Unknown
Scientific Name: Choloepus hoffmanni

Sloths do everything in an unhurried way. They move very slowly -- a good way to save energy. They digest their meals of low-calorie leaves slowly in their large, multi-chambered stomach. They even poop just once a week! Maybe this leisurely lifestyle is the reason sloths are among the most successful mammals in the forests of Central and South America.

Did you Know?

Sloths are well hidden in their tree-top homes by the blue-green algae that grows on their fur.
