Range: Southern and central United States
Habitat: Various habitats; found in undisturbed areas in and around houses and other buildings; found outdoors under rocks and logs
Conservation Status: Not listed by IUCN
Scientific Name: Loxosceles reclusa

As its name suggests, this spider prefers dark, out-of-the-way hiding places. But shy as it is, the brown recluse can inflict a serious bite. Problem is, normally you don't even feel the bite until your body reacts to the venom hours later.
