This hawk’s striking feather patterns make it easy to identify. The Harris’ hawk is a good hunter, always on the lookout for rabbits, quail, lizards, snakes and animal remains. Adults make good parents. The male and female take turns sitting on the eggs and raising their young. Harris’ hawks have a curious habit known as stacking behavior. When there are not enough tree limbs for perching, they sit on top of each other!
