Golden-breasted Starling

golden_breasted_starling_sm.jpg: Golden-breasted starling
Range: Northeastern Africa
Habitat: Arid acacia savanna
Conservation Status: Common
Scientific Name: Cosmopsarus regius

This bird's brilliant blue and yellow colors provide quite a contrast to the drab colors of its dry African bush habitat.  Golden-breasted starlings live in small family flocks.  Group members often help a female feed and tend her young.  They not only help her build her nest in the cavity of a tree, but also bring insects to feed her growing chicks.
