Scientific Name: Agapornis personatus

It's easy to see how these charming little birds got their name. They spend so much time sitting together and grooming each other, they seem to be "in love."

Lovebirds are small parrots from Africa. They feed mainly on seeds. Because they breed so well in captivity, they are commonly kept as pets.

There are many different types of lovebirds; each type has a different color pattern. This species is named for the distinctive "collar" of yellow feathers that encircle its neck. And because its white eye rings and dark head tend to resemble a mask, this bird is also called the masked lovebird.
